The Copenhagen Summit on Climate Change is getting into its final week. While the decission makers keep discussing whether there is room for an agreement, all kind of organizations try to make their voice heard. The architects, throught the International Union of Architects, have launched this week-end a “Sustainable by design” declaration that committs architects to reducing, or reversing, the negative impact of the built environment on the global climate. It is considered that a careful design of forms, geometry and spatial strategies, married with the appropriate materials, equipment and functional distribution, can reduce the use of resources, greenhouse gas emissions and overall environmental impact by 50% to 80%.
